HEY EVERYONE it's your friendly local mod. ANYONE WHO HASN'T POSTED ON THE MINGLE POST YET PLEASE FEEL FREE TO STILL DO SO. If you need ideas just let me know and I'll stick prompts in the main post.

The purpose of this post is ... multi-fold. ONE: how do we feel about an overarching story? I have one in mind - dealing with the ownership of the hospital, the state of its finances, and a natural disaster - but I need to know if everyone wants an overarching story to play in and play out or if we want to keep it casual. In theory once the story concluded casual playing could happen, and certainly I'm 0k with people just tossing up a [ JOHN'S HANGING OUT IN THE CAFETERIA COME BOTHER HIM ] post at any time.

FOR THAT MATTER, AN ASIDE: FEEL FREE TO TOSS UP YOUR OWN POSTS ANYTIME YOU WANT. I'll post occasionally with stuff but y'all can also feel free. Even toss up memes or whatever you like.

ANYWAY so yeah. OVERARCHING STORY: YES OR NO. Tell me how you feel in the comments. (Let it all out.)


SECOND ORDER OF BUSINESS: DANCESTORS. I've been asked a LOT about adding them in. I'm not huge on the idea of adding ancestors (Summoner, Sufferer, Dolorosa, etc etc etc) because they all have zero dialogue to speak of aside from Mindfang. BUT THE DANCESTORS, Aranea and Meenah et al, I am fine with including. BUT IN WHAT CAPACITY?

I've heard of them also having jobs in the hospital. I myself suggested that they work at a sister hospital. And I've also heard the idea where they are all long-term patients in the hospital. SO HERE IS ANOTHER POLL: WHAT CAPACITY WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE THE DANCESTORS IN? If you have an idea then it'd be great if you could suggest a few example roles (like if they work in the hospital, what jobs do they fill?) to get us started off. PLEASE ALSO INCLUDE THAT SHIT IN YO COMMENTS.


THIRD ORDER OF BUSINESS WOW EMILY TALKS TOO MUCH: this is dumb but. the name of the hospital. AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO CARES? I'm still debating between Skaia Heights Medical Center and Crocker Foundation Hospital. i might be the only one who cares DOES ANYONE ELSE CARE.


FOURTH AND FINAL ORDER OF BUSINESS: how do ppl feel about a hospitalstuck plurk so that I can plurk about this shit and y'all don't have to either always check this comm or look for plurks from myself or Pengu? I THINK THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL. MAYBE.

1. I'd love an overarching story! Gives people things to react to but also lets them ignore some things.

2. Personally I'd leave the questions of what dancestors are up to anyone who'd like to play them, though I guess all the kids/beta trolls had some headcanons set up to start with. So I guess I abstain from this vote.

3. I have a slight preference for Skaia for the name of the hospital but I just love Skaia okay.

4. Sure! It'd also give people a place to plot that's a little bit more immediate than the plotting post.

Hi hi still haven't posted on the plotting post doop doop but I figure I'll post here regardless.

I like the idea of an ongoing plot! It definitely sounds pretty awesome and like it would be fun.

As for Ancestors/Dancestors... Well, I really love the Ancestors, but I can understand why people wouldn't want them. As for the Dancestors, if they were allowed to be playable, I would actually greatly prefer if they were doctors. I feel like if they were patients, they would be rather limited as to what they could do as opposed to being doctors. ALTERNATIVELY, what if you gave people the choice to play them as either a patient OR a doctor, depending on their preference?

I rather like Skaia Heights Medical center, personally.

1. In all seriousness, I think a plot would be good to make sure it doesn't end up fizzling. It doesn't have to be huge, just something to beef up what we've got currently. There are a lot of factors to play around with in a hospital but it's good to have something that brings it all together.

2. I'm alright with Dancestors, more the merrier after all. I can understand not wanting Ancestors since they're aa bit redundant. But we could use them as ~NPCs~ of a sort at times. If you need someone to come in and be a bad guy or w/e.

Not sure! I don't know exactly what you had in mind but things like legal battles (over ownership) and financial issues can span a year or more, and natural disasters take a long time to recover from.

I don't have a whole lot of opinion on it either way so long as it's not like NEW PLOT EVERY WEEK.

Overarching plot = yes. Plurk = yes. Skaia Heights is a cooler sounding name, Crocker Foundation sounds more like a real place, I'm good with either.

Dancestors - I really think they should, in whatever capacity, be in the same hospital. Two different locations makes interaction a lot harder. I am not personally for the chronic patients things? I mean, maybe for one or two, but having done hospital clinical rotations, that role is super restricting in a lot of ways. It's not like patients can just wander around a lot of the time chatting with people, and then they'd be gone for big chunks fo time. I think they should also have roles in the hospital, keeping in mind that there are tons of people who work in that kind of setting that aren't medical staff. Volunteers, housekeeping, admin, cafeteria, and running various events. Frankly, there are lots and lots of roles in a hospital setting that can be occupied by all kinds of personalities. So maybe one or two chronic patients, but I think everyone else should be connected in some other way.

That is sounding like a good idea to me re: dancestors. I would love your help working up a list of potential non-medical positions they could fill so ppl could at least have something to work from!

Totally! Here are some of the jobs that haven't been covered yet (and some of these are semi-medical, too, just to have ideas):

Child care
File clerk
Translator (maybe Damara?)
Pharmacy aid
Florist/floral arranger
Morgue staff
Handyman/Maintenance
Lab tech
Technicians for various machines
Electricians
Accountants/Billing
Auditors
Research people
Laundry
Unit hosts (people who do a lot of the busy work with patients for requests, like bringing meals, newspapers, etc - the sort of go-to over all helper person)
Nurse's aids (do manual labor type nursing stuff - bed baths, transferring people, helping people get to the bathroom, etc)
Switchboard operators/receptionist
Hospital based home health care (nurses and caregivers that work out of the hospital, and go to people's homes to provide care)
Social Workers
Psychiatric staff (therapists, nurses, doctors, and aids on a psych unit)
Psych sitters (people who hang out with people in a mental health crisis in the ED, basically keeping an eye on them, keeping them from hurting themselves, etc)
Security
Hospitals tend to have huge tech departments, so any position there

Overarching plot: Maybe in the same capacity as Adventure Time (or hey, Scrubs!) where it's mostly stand-alone stories with a slowly building framework of plot connecting and developing things?

Dancestors: very yes. Meenah for Chief of Medicine (or whatever they call the head head honcho), Horus for also Physical therapy/ prosthesis development except everything is dongs.

Here's my two cents on the matter.

I think an overarching story sounds pretty awesome and I'd be willing to help out wherever I can.

And I like Skaia Heights Medical Center. It has a nice ring to it.

Ancestors & Dancestors: Kind of ehhh on the former; if anything they could be NPCs like someone else said. I do like the idea of latter being able to be played, though! What their role is, I feel, should be up to whoever picks them up, but I'm also agreeing with only a couple of them being long-term patients. Having them all be patients wouldn't make any sense.

And now for the polls.

I love the idea of an overarching plot. I think it'll be very helpful in giving us more to post about.

I'm supportive of including dancestors to expand the cast, in whatever capacity. A sister hospital would work so long as there were lots of other opportunities for all the characters to interact. Otherwise, I'd prefer something where they were at the same hospital, either as other workers or a mix or something. Some of the dancestors WOULD fit well as patients (Mituna, Kurloz...) but I'm open to whatever people want to do.

I like the Crocker name XD Jane and Meenah (if we have a Meenah) could be related to the owners of the hospital and be involved in the overarching plot that way.
